Ron Paul Statement to the National Press Club

Posted on October 06, 2008 in Canadian drugs

Ron Paul held a news conference today at the National Press Club. Sixty percent of the American people do not approve of either of the two major party candidates, in part because; We cannot expect withdrawal of troops from Iraq or the Middle East with either of the two major candidates. Expect continued involvement in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Georgia. Neither hints of a non-interventionist foreign policy. Do not expect to hear the rejection of the policy of supporting the American world empire. There will be no emphasis in protecting privacy and civil liberties and the constant surveillance of the American people. Do not expect any serious attempt to curtail the rapidly expanding national debt. And certainly, there will be no hint of addressing the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationship with big banks and international corporations and the politicians. read more | digg story His advice? vote for a "third party" candidate. All of the candidates (except the major ones) agreed to the following four principles as part of being mentioned by name by Ron Paul in his speech; Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must cease the war propaganda, threats of a blockade and plans for attacks on Iran, nor should we re-ignite the cold war with Russia over Georgia. We must be willing to talk to all countries and offer friendship and trade and travel to all who are willing. We must take off the table the threat of a nuclear first strike against all nations. Privacy: We must protect the privacy and civil liberties of all persons under US jurisdiction. We must repeal or radically change the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, eliminations of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the people for the benefit of the government. We must reject the unitary presidency, the illegal use of signing statements and excessive use of executive orders. The National Debt: We believe that there should be no increase in the national debt. The burden of debt placed on the next generation is unjust and already threatening our economy and the value of our dollar. We must pay our bills as we go along and not unfairly place this burden on a future generation. The Federal Reserve: We seek a thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationships with the banking, corporate, and other financial institutions. The arbitrary power to create money and credit out of thin air behind closed doors for the benefit of commercial interests must be ended. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies. Corporations should be aggressively prosecuted for their crimes and frauds. Reads like an essential list of principles to me. Based on this list, even I would vote for Ralph Nader. But I'm still pulling the lever marked "L" and voting for all the Libertarian candidates, just as I have done for the last 16 years. Here's Ron Paul on the Glenn Beck show discussing the substance of the news conference; He was also on Wolf Blitzer. You can watch that one on the Campaign for Liberty site, I'm not posting it here. I found Blitzer's wheedling of both Dr. Paul and Ralph Nader (trying to get them to admit they want to ruin the election for Obama) to be so transparent as to be disgusting. May the ghost of Edward R. Murrow haunt you for the remainder of your (limited) days, Mr Blitzer. Yellow journalism doesn't begin to describe your function in life. You are no more, and no less than a common propagandist; and of which you are nothing in comparison to Ol' Joey himself. It's being reported that C-Span will have the conference available on the website after it airs. I think it's a good sign that the so called "third parties" have come together to present a united opposition to the sham that is the US election cycle. If only one of them could be elected instead of one of the Mc-bamas . My money is still on the guy with the better teeth and hair. Not that I think he'll do a good job, I just think Americans are really that shallow when it comes right down to it. The Raw Story has a video clip from CNN of the News Conference. It is also available as a purchase from C-span, or you can watch it in 9 segments on the Campaign for Liberty Channel on YouTube. Here's the first segment: Cheap Generic Viagra

BUSH’S MEDICAL SLEIGHT-OF-HAND

Posted on September 09, 2008 in Generic medical release

Feedback to: wfisher206@aol.com By William Fisher Remember the billions for HIV-AIDS President Bush pledged in his 2003 State of the Union address? Those funds were to put two million people in Africa and the Caribbean on life-saving antiretroviral drugs. Has this promise gone the way of ‘No Child Left Behind’? Or the new mission to the moon and Mars? Or the huge stockpiles of WMD in Iraq? According to Dr. Paul Zeitz, president and executive director of the Global AIDS Alliance, the Bush administration’s recent announcement of new "fast-track" approval of combination drugs for HIV/AIDS “looks great for public relations.” But, Dr. Zeitz contends that “Bush is slowing down an internationally recognized, World Health Organization-run, multilateral approval process for generic AIDS medicines.” Says Dr. Zeitz: “On closer inspection, we learn that President Bush continues to block or delay access to the high-quality generically manufactured drugs that can save lives today. Actually, African governments, the World Bank, UNICEF, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria and non-governmental organizations like Doctors Without Borders are all already using WHO-approved medicines to treat AIDS patients around the world.” Zeitz adds: “The Bush administration has attempted to put a positive media ‘compassion’ spin on its global AIDS programs, while it simultaneously slows progress and relentlessly implements an arrogant, unilateralist and ideological policy that consistently undermines global efforts by nearly all other stakeholders.” Should we be surprised? Hardly, because this would not be the first time the Bush Administration has chosen ideology over science. For example: Sex Education. President Bush has consistently supported the view that sex education should teach “abstinence only” and not include information on other ways to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Until recently, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) initiative called “Programs That Work” identified sex education programs that have been found to be effective in scientific studies and provided this information through its web site. In 2002, all five “Programs That Work” provided comprehensive sex education to teenagers, and none were “abstinence-only.” CDC has now ended this initiative and erased information about these proven sex education programs from its web site. Information about condom use and efficacy was deleted from CDC web site. The CDC replaced a comprehensive fact sheet on condoms with one emphasizing condom failure rates and the effectiveness of abstinence. Stem Cell Research. In banning federal funding for research on new stem cell lines, President Bush stated that “more than 60 genetically diverse" lines were available for potential research. Soon thereafter, HHS Secretary Thompson acknowledged that the correct number was only about 24 to 25. Still later, NIH Director Dr. Elias Zerhouni told Congress that only 11 stem cell lines were widely available to researchers. Recently, none other than Mrs. Nancy Reagan has gone public, urging the president to rethink his stem cell policy. Global Warming. Reports by the Environmental Protection Agency on the risks of climate change were suppressed; The White House added so many hedges to the climate change section of the EPA's report card on the environment that former administrator Christie Whitman deleted the section rather than publish one that was so scientifically inaccurate. Missile Defense. A top Defense Department official told a Senate panel that by the end of 2004, the system would be 90% effective in intercepting missiles from the Korean peninsula. In April 2003, the General Accounting Office found the President’s plan unworkable and even dangerous. The claim of 90% effectiveness “is not supported by any publicly available evidence, and it appears not to comport with the Pentagon’s own classified estimates.” Wetlands Policy. Comments from scientists at the Fish and Wildlife Service on the destructive impacts of proposed regulatory changes were withheld. Scientists at the US Fish and Wildlife Service, part of the Interior Department, had prepared such an analysis showing that the new Corps proposal would “encourage the destruction of stream channels and lead to increased loss of aquatic functions.” The Interior Secretary, however, failed to submit the scientists’ comments to the Corps. The Corps subsequently issued rules that weakened key wetland protections. Abortion and Breast Cancer. Social conservatives campaigned to require women to be “counseled” about an alleged risk of breast cancer from abortions, the National Cancer Institute revised its web site to suggest that studies of equal weight conflicted on the question. In fact, there is scientific consensus that no such link exists. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if the president trusted the people enough to level with them? Bush v. America on North Korea Policy

Posted on August 16, 2008 in Medical care

I'm one of the first to argue that policy should not follow popularity (There was a fantastic radio humor short I heard a few years back about an election which was won by the candidate who literally promised every voter a pony, but I haven't been able to locate it since) but when a politician claims a "mandate" as our president has generally that means that their policies are broadly endorsed. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm particularly struck by this: Still, 42 percent now say that Mr. Bush would have been better off trying to counter the threat of North Korea before invading Iraq, compared with 45 percent who think Mr. Bush was correct to focus first on Iraq. ... 58 percent of respondents said the White House did not share the foreign affairs priorities of most Americans. ... On North Korea, 81 percent said that that nation does indeed now have nuclear weapons, and 7 in 10 said it poses a serious threat to the United States. Still, a majority of Americans said they opposed taking pre-emptive action against North Korea if diplomatic efforts failed - a shift from before the war in Iraq, when a majority said they would support military action if diplomatic efforts failed. It always struck me as odd that the Iraq campaign came first, and that the administration held back on making North Korea a priority when it had a must stronger claim to WMD from the very beginning of the first term. Oil? We'll never get a straight answer out of this administration (or access to their documentation, either).

Indian Athelete Fails Gender Test

Posted on August 05, 2008 in Generic medical release

A top Indian woman athlete who won a silver medal at a recent regional championship has failed a gender test, officials say. Santhi Soundararajan , who took the silver in the women's 800m race at the Asian Games in Doha, is likely to be stripped of her award, reports say. Santhi Soundararajan, 25, was declared the best athlete at an Indian championship in the capital, Delhi, this year. She is possibly the third Indian sportswoman to fail a gender test. "Santhi was subjected to a gender test in Doha and we have received the report which says she failed the test," said Manmohan Singh, chairman of the Indian Olympic Association's Medical Commission. The test is not mandatory, but carried out if officials want it or a rival team protests, reports say. Second controversy The test was done soon after Santhi Soundararajan came second in the women's 800m race on 9 December. Reports say the athlete cleared the gender test at the Asian track and field championship in South Korea last year where she won the silver medal in the 800m. It is not clear how she failed the test at the Asian Games in Doha . This the second controversy to hit Indian athletes within a month - female shot putter Seema Antil was withdrawn from the Asian Games she failed a pre-competition dope test.

Enough.

I had this thought, somewhere in my mind, that after the 2004 election, we'd never have to hear such phrases as, "If you vote for the Democratic candidate, the terrorists will strike again and you will die," or some formulation of that. Apparently I was wrong, and the guy who said it was the guy I least expected to say it. Shame on you, Rudy. Shame on you for making such outlandish claims. Shame on you for spewing this same line that Democrats will not aggressively pursue terrorists. How many times are we going to be forced to listen to such utter, uninformed nonsense? How many times are we going to have our loyalty, our patriotism, our courage, our desire to beat the common enemy we all face? Enough. We have had six years of Republican governance, and for all the bluster in the world, we never caught Osama bin Laden (which is important both symbolically and substantially, considering he's the major source of al-Qaeda funding and its leader), we haven't yet settled Iraq after four years, we haven't even tried to make peace in other Middle Eastern nations, and North Korea and Iran have acquired nuclear technology which now poses a much more serious threat than a disarmed and cornered Saddam Hussein. Wow. That's a record I'd want to run on. Enough. When the terrorists struck us here, on our shores, they did not attack Republicans or Democrats. They attacked Americans. Within mere months, though, the Republican party decided that this was the chance to broaden their grip on voters who were concerned with national security. And of course, everyone was concerned with national security, because we'd just had New York and D.C. blown up. So, Max Cleland, a veteran who left three limbs on the battlefield, has his image interspersed with bin Laden in a campaign commercial run by a guy who never served. You get an vote on the Iraq war brought before Congress right before the election, deliberately done so as to influence the election in people's minds. Andy Card said it himself in "Plan of Attack." You get people who love their country and disagree with the president branded as traitors because they won't fall in line, when dissent is one of our most cherished rights and values. And you lie. You lie when you say Democrats didn't want Homeland Security when Democrats introduced the bill first and had it rejected by the President, who miraculously revived it, changed it, and then used it to brand Democrats as weak on terror. You lie when you say we're fighting in Iraq to stop the terrorists when they weren't even there until after we invaded! You lie when you portray calls for accountability as surrender. You lie when you say our rights aren't degraded, yet the power of the state to circumvent things like warrants is stronger than it has been in two generations. You lie when you say that you are the party of responsibility when you've run up the largest deficit ever and borrowed it all from nations that don't wish us well. Most of all, you lie when you stand there, wag your finger, and declare that only Republicans can save us from terrorism. Defending America is not a partisan task. Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman led us ably and aptly through World War II. Abraham Lincoln's desire for a truly United States was the only thing between winning and losing the Civil War. Both parties are capable of leading a nation to success in a situation that demands it. We are so tired, and I am so tired, of having to declare for the umpteenth time that I love my country, I love its people, I love its freedoms, and that I want it to succeed. That should NEVER be in question. Enough is enough. Disagreeing with the man in power is not un-American, in fact, it is the definition of the quintessential American, and that's a fact that is lost on the right. We are perfectly willing to work with anyone of any political leaning to better our nation, but we will not back down anymore. We're through compromising on our basic principles, principles that are uniquely American, the belief in the common good, the belief in civil rights, the belief that government is supposed to help you, not be your adversary, and the belief that America is comprised of people who love their nation and shouldn't have their dedication and love questioned, ever. Enough. Rudy, you should be ashamed of yourself. crossposted at The American Princess. Go watch the fireworks.

World Wildlife Fund: Help the Cats Behind the Mascots

Posted on July 13, 2008 in Generic medical release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 14, 20052:50 PM CONTACT: World Wildlife Fund Tom Lalley, 202-778-9544 tom.lalley@wwfus.org World Wildlife Fund: Help the Cats Behind the Mascots WASHINGTON -- March 14 -- College students love their mascots. They paint images of mascots on their faces and bodies, wear them on their clothes, and stick them on their car windows. Now students are helping the wild animals that have inspired dozens of college mascots around the country: big cats. Across the United States, campus groups are getting involved in WWF's Pennies for the Planet campaign-which is raising money for and awareness about big cats-and WWF is inviting more groups to join in. Check out the campaign at http://www.worldwildlife.org/pennies . Many big cat species around the world are threatened with extinction. This year's Pennies campaign is raising money to help protect three highly endangered big cats: the Amur leopard, the Sumatran tiger, and the snow leopard. WWF is challenging college students to be the top fundraisers in the drive to help save the cats they so often rally behind. On the Web site students will find information about big cats and the threats they face, stories and photos about other Pennies participants, ideas for raising money, facts to help educate others about big cats, and more. Education majors will find activities designed to teach young people about big cats and conservation in both formal and informal learning environments. Those groups who take part and send in a photo of their group will get featured on the site These big cats need our help: The Amur leopard is one of the most endangered species in the world: Only 20-30 are thought to be left in the wild. Although they used to be found throughout northeast China and the Korean peninsula, today they are confined to a single province of eastern Russia, largely due to heavy poaching. Money donated to Pennies for the Planet will be used to fund anti-poaching teams, as well as environmental education programs for Russian youth. Preventing the extinction of the Sumatran tiger-which some experts think may be the first large mammal to go extinct in the 21st century-depends on a solid understanding of the tigers' movements and habits. Money donated to Pennies for the Planet will help fund an Indonesian graduate student's research on Sumatran tigers, allowing him to purchase radio collars and follow the tigers' movements. Money donated to Pennies for the Planet will also go towards two snow leopard conservation projects-helping a Bhutanese wildlife research team carry out a census of snow leopards in Bhutan, and training park staff and local people to do research for snow leopard conservation in Nepal's remote northern mountains. Last year, young people raised over $72,000 for on-the-ground conservation action through Pennies for the Planet. Students at Ohio State University, University of Minnesota, Mansfield University, Catholic University of America, and University of Montana have all taken part in Pennies for the Planet. This year, WWF is looking for greater college student involvement, particularly from those colleges with big cat mascots. Leaders of student conservation groups or other interested individuals should contact Florence Miller, Pennies for the Planet Coordinator, at 202-778-9559 or pennies@wwfus.org . Known in the United States as World Wildlife Fund and recognized worldwide by its panda logo, WWF leads international efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats and to conserve the diversity of life on Earth. Now in its fifth decade, WWF, the global conservation organization, works in more than 100 countries around the world. A New Enemy in the War on Terror

Posted on June 29, 2008 in Medical care

In light of this post over at 'but that's just my opinion', I've decided to repost the following, Originally Posted 3/25/06 The United States has another enemy in the war on terror. It's not Iran, Syria, or even France. It is Russia. A few weeks ago I wrote about some of the evidence about what happened to the WMD's in Iraq (It has more recently become a favorite topic for bloggers), evidence mysteriously missing from the MSM. What startles me more, however, is the accusations that Russia was implicit in the transportation of WMD's from Iraq to both Syria and Lebanon...Why would Russia be involved in the movement of Iraqi WMD's? These were weapons that were prohibited under 17 UN Resolutions, so why would Russia be involved in hiding them? Because most of the weapons are of Russian origin. These accusations were made by John A. Shaw, the former undersecretary of defense. However, his accusations went mostly unnoticed or ignored by the MSM. While moonbats all too often seem to claim that this is a war all about oil, it should be remembered that Russia had lucrative oil contracts with Iraq prior to the war. While this may be one the reasons why they disputed UN Security council 1441, I think protecting the secret that they had illegally supplied Iraq with contraband weapons would be a stronger motive for Russia to lobby against passing the resolution. Yesterday, new accusations came out from the pentagon that Russia fed US war plans to Iraq. This is a very disturbing accusation. While Russia not only ignored the UN security council in order to arm Iraq and may have been integral in moving these weapons from Iraq into Lebanon and Syria, supplying US war plans to Iraq is a much more serious offense. If true, it would mean that Russia is not an ally of the United States, or the war on terror. Rightwinged.com chimes in with regard to the recently released Iraqi documents, saying Many have wondered if the administration's reluctance to release the documents might be over concern of embarassing and alienating our Russian "allies", because we think we're going to need their help with the current Iran situation...Personally I say "screw Russia" Rightwinged is right. In light of Russia's recent actions regarding Iraq, both before and after the beginning of the war, I do not feel that Russia can be trusted. The US should not allow the plan to allow Russia to supply Iran with fissionable material for use in nuclear power plants. Considering Russia's actions, allowing such a close relationship between the two countries makes me as nervous as allowing North Korea to supply Iran with the same material. The security of Israel, the US, and the entire world may very well rest upon how the current Iran situation can be resolved. I would not feel comfortable knowing that Russia is keeping me safe.

My Own Personal Pharmacy News

Posted on June 10, 2008 in Pharmacy

Here at the University of Minnesota, where I work, our campus newspaper The Minnesota Daily ran an editorial advocating the launch of a men's soccer program . The state of Minnesota doesn't have any Division 1 programs, and seeing as this school is one of the 10 biggest in the country, it makes sense to have one here. It's about time someone starts beating the drum. MLS scores from this weekend: - Toronto 0-1 Kansas City - goal by Eddie Johnson Match report by Larry Millson of the Toronto Globe & Mail. Match report by Morgan Campbell of the Toronto Star. Post-game analysis by Stephen Brunt of the Toronto Globe & Mail. Post-game analysis by Cathal Kelly of the Toronto Star. - Columbus 1-0 DC - goal by Ezra Hendrickson Match report by Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch. Post-game analysis by Steven Goff of the Washington Post on his Soccer Insider blog. - Los Angeles 3-1 Chivas USA - LA goals by Landon Donovan, Kevin Harmse & Cobi Jones. Chivas goal by Claudio Suarez. Match report by Grahame Jones of the LA Times. Match report by Joel Aceves of LA Soccer News. Match report by Phil Collin of the LA Daily News. - Dallas 0-1 New England - goal by Taylor Twellman Match report by Gabriel Cabarrouy of the Dallas Morning News. Match report by Frank Dell'apa of the Boston Globe. - Houston 0-1 Chicago - goal by Chris Rolfe Match report by Bernardo Fallas of the Houston Chronicle. Match report from the Chicago Sun Times. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The du Nord MLS Player Of The Week - Landon Donovan - Los Angeles Galaxy -He captained his team to their 8th win in the 10th edition of the fraudulently named Super Classico. (Not so Super on Chivas's part anyway.) None the less. The man we call Landy-Cakes was superb. Very early on, Los Angeles applied good pressure that led to Chivas committing a keeper-defender duel-self-takedown leaving LD a clear ball to pounce on and slam home for goal #1. Several more times in the first half Donovan dropped into midfield to help out his young central duo of Sturgis-Harmes to totally stifle Marsch & Guevara of the Goatboys. El Dee also used his superior speed to cause chaos from sideline to sideline, yet in the 17th minute he sat at the top of the box with his back to goal and played post up striker. Harmes charged toward him and worked a perfect give & go as Donovan drew 3 defenders leaving Harmes clear in on goal, allowing him to calmly slot home at the near post for goal #2. Chivas tried to apply pressure for the next 60 odd minutes, but could not get more than a couple decent shots. A scrambled home goal gave Chivas new life at 2-1, but Donovan answered again but taking a ball 65 yards at breath-taking speed, hurdling Lawson Vaughn (who bragged before the game that he could stick with LD's speed), and drawing the defense & keeper to his side of the box so he could slip a ball across them all for streaking teammate Cobi Jones to bury into an open net. Game over. 3-1 to LA. All scored or set up perfectly by the man we love to hate. And I do love him. Those assists and goal make Donovan the 11th player in MLS history to register 50 goals & 50 assists, and he is only 25! Great match from a true captain on the night. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ My MLS notes: TFC v KC -It was the first ever MLS game in Toronto, the home opener for Toronto FC, and the debut of sold out BMO (pronounced Bee-Mo) Field. -It was the also the first time that I had ever seen anything broadcast on CBC. -Mitch Peacock from the Fox Soccer Report was the sideline reporter for the match. -The announcers were some old English wanker and former Canadian national team keeper Craig Forrest. -The national anthems (USA & Canada) were sung by a guy from the musical We Will Rock You. He twice forgot the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner. The crowed roared each time he blew it. -As soon as I saw referee Mauricio Navarro stroll out on to the pitch I knew we were in for a long whistle filled affair. He loves to blow that thing constantly. He must have been ignored as a child. -Toronto moved Maurice Edu into the middle of the field were he belongs, not on the wing like last game. -KC's Argentine midfielder Carlos Marinelli only lasted 15 minutes on the field till his hamstring gave out. -A yellow card was given to new TFC striker Danny Dichio for a hard charge on KC keeper Kevin Hartman. It was a pretty serious cheap shot on a keeper out of the box trying to clear the ball. The announcers went on at length about how it was NOT a foul at all, but rather a simple challenge for the ball. I guarantee you if Eddie Johnson had done that to Greg Sutton they would have been screaming for Johnson's head. Hypocrits. -The camera shots are not the greatest. several times we cannot see the corner flags. -TFC put a lot of pressure on KC but could not capitalize. Jack Jewsbury cleared a shot off the KC goal line. -For the first time, late in the game, you could really hear TFC fans singing. They have been loud and occasionally chanting in short bursts, but the microphones are not detecting constant singing like I expected to hear. But finally we hear "All we are saying, is give us a goal"! Excellent. -Eddie Johnson had several good chances but put his shots straight at the keeper every time. -Until....the 81st, when Johnson cuts inside and beats Sutton to the near post for the game winner. -Decent start in Toronto for the fans (not so much the team). Let's see em keep it up all summer. -Ronnie O'Brien will help TFC a lot if he can stay healthy. Lumbus v DC -Dante Washington was one of the Columbus TV announcers, and he is reeeeeeeeealy mellow. He will also be playing for Columbus in their next reserve league game. They are really desperate I guess. -Fred2 & Devin McTavish got their first starts for DCU. -The main announcer Dwight Burgess kept calling Ricardo Virtuoso, Virch-ee-oso. -Great Crew goal in the 28th minute after a Brian Carroll giveaway. Ned Grabavoy charges in, then swings it wide left to Jospeh Ngwenya who rips the ball across to Ezra Hendrickson who's first shot is blocked but he gets the rebound and does not miss again. -Burgess says Ezra is 400 years old and 12 feet tall! -Luciano Emilio got a yellow card for using his hand to put the ball into the net. -And Christin Gomez got later got a yellow for a dive in the box. Excellent. -Carroll pulled at half time. -DC brought some of their great fans on the road, and they are much louder than the home fans. -DC applied a lot of possession and pressure, but could not break through. -Columbus counter attacked quite well. -The game was delayed in the 84th minute for over twenty minutes due to a thunder storm, and lightning strikes in the area of the stadium. -Columbus killed it off after that. -Both Joseph Ngwenya and keeper Andy Gruenebaum had solid games for the Crew. LA v Chivas -During the pregame show, Colonel Sanders was standing behind the FSC live set. Good to see the Chicken God on hand. -The FSC pregame show was also still plagued by interviews with no sound. Ugly. -After LA scored early Chivas really turned it up, but saves from Joe Cannon kept em at bay. -The crowd at the HDC was late arriving. But I have to ask, with the two teams being from LA why didn't we see overflow tickets sold to the the grass hill. Sad to see the demand for tickets dip. -Right before Claudio Suarez scored for Chivas, Ante Razov had put a header off the post. It could have been #101. -FSC misses a Landon Donovan breakaway attempt while showing replays of NOTHING! -Off camera Amado Guevara who had been subbed off for Chivas was red carded for apparently shoving an assistant referee after Cobi Jones's game clinching goal. Oh, that is bad. He will get a suspension for that one. Andy Herron got 6 games two years ago for a similar stunt. -I read on LASN that Chivas is now 0-27-8 when its opponent scores first! Dall v NE -Michael Parkhurts makes his season debut for New Eng after injury. Pat Noonan also gets his first start. -Bobby Rhine starts for Alex Yi at the right back spot for Dallas. -The Telefutura announcers were cracking Jimmy Buffett jokes. Apparently he just played a concert at PHP. -The best part of the ultra-tiny crowd in Dallas is that everyone in attendance gets to personally meet each other. How nice. -I am seeing lots of yellow shoes in the league. Taylor Twellman in this game. Joe Cannon of LA and Jonny Bornstein of Chivas also sporting them. (sorry - more notes later - gotta run) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The MLS Coaches Hot Seat - Who will be the first one fired in 07? 1. Tom Soehn - DC United - leaps to the top of the table after another awful loss. 2. John Ellinger - Real Salt Lake - stinking it up for the third straight year. How will they do tonight v dreaded rivals Colorado. 3. Mo Johnston - Toronto FC - I know they are an expansion team, so no wins is not shocking, but no ties and NO GOALS either! Ugh. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ LA coach Frank Yallop told Andrea Canales at LA Soccer News that there is "No chance" of Zinedine Zidane coming to play in LA. Does this boost the chances of him coming to Chicago as I think he might, or not? But then again we all know that there is really no chance of "No chance" ever being 100%. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The San Francisco Chronicle talks to potential San Jose Earthquakes re-animator Lew Wolff about the stadium deal at San Jose State University that fell apart last week. Several myths debunked. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I have been trying to figure out why MLS teams have backed away from signing goalkeeper Kasey Keller. I have my own theories brewing. Rambus prevails against Hynix in SJ action

Posted on May 09, 2008 in Generic pharmaceuticals

Rambus announced on January 20, 2005 that a judge (Ronald Whyte) in the Northern District of California had acted favorably to Rambus in an infringement action against Hynix. Trial will begin on March 21, 2005 on matters not resolved in the summary judgment actions. Of six summary judgment motions filed by the defendant Hynix, Judge Whyte granted one, according to the statement. This resulted in nine claims in four patents containing the term "second external clock signal" being removed from the case. The ruling reduces the number of claims against Hynix from 59 to 50, according to the statement. Of summary judgment motions filed by the plaintiff Rambus, Judge Whyte made two sets of rulings on Rambus's summary judgment. First, he ruled that Hynix infringes 29 claims from four asserted Rambus patents. The judge also ruled that Rambus was limited in the way it could accuse Hynix in 11 of its claims. Curiously, there is a report by the Seoul Economic Daily newspaper that Hynix was granted a motion this week by the European Patent Office DISMISSING Rambus' claims and clearing Hynix of infringement charges. This would be another case in which things came out differently in Europe than in America (remember Amgen-Kirin?) Such examples of divergent results between America and Europe throw water on the use by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of comparisons between the US and Europe on patent grant rates. [Stephen A. Merrill, Richard C. Levin, and Mark B. Myers, "A Patent System for the 21st Century"] The rules to get patents are different (see also Robert A. Clarke, U.S. Continuity Law and its Impact on the Comparative Patenting Rates of the U.S., Japan, and European Patent Office, 85 J. Pat. & Trademark Off. Soc'y [JPTOS] 335 (2003)), the patent one gets is different, and the litigtion results are different. from Forbes (through AP): The court found that Korea-based Hynix violated 29 claims from four patents held by Rambus after throwing out five of six motions filed by Hynix challenging the validity of the claims. It also decided that a "fact issue" regarding a limitation appearing in 11 of 40 claims would have to be tried in court, Rambus said. The first phase of the trial is scheduled to begin March 21 and will focus on the remaining patent-infringement and validity claims. Rambus added that a second phase will be tried in June over various non-patent disputes and counterclaims asserted by Hynix. In all, Rambus had asserted that Hynix infringed on 59 claims from 15 patents, but a summary judgment granted Thursday by the U.S. District Court of Northern California reduced the number of claims to 50. "This summary judgment of infringement is great news and a major step forward toward our goal of being fairly compensated for our innovations," John Danforth, Rambus senior vice president and general counsel, said in a statement. cialis viagra buy cilais Cheap Viagra

Bolton: Accomplishments Forgotten

Posted on May 08, 2008 in Medical care

As I discussed early this morning, I'm upset that John Bolton was essentially forced out of his seat as UN Ambassador. Throughout the day I've been reading numerous stories about his resignation, many of which provided a discussion of his brief tenure. However, I noticed that many of his accomplishments are not being mentioned. None of the numerous CNN.com iterations of the story discuss the fact that Bolton was nominated for a Nobel peace prize for his tough work exposing Iran's nuclear ambitions. In fact, CNN.com had trouble getting his name right! Also forgotten were Bolton's strong words condemning the UN for not acting on the Darfur crisis. These aspects were also missing from MSNBC/Newsweek, Reuters, and The New York Times. CBSnews.com doesn't mention the Nobel nomination, but Darfur is at least mentioned in their story, within a quote by President Bush: "Ambassador Bolton led the successful negotiations that resulted in unanimous Security Council resolutions regarding North Korea's military and nuclear activities. He built consensus among our allies on the need for Iran to suspend the enrichment and reprocessing of uranium," Mr. Bush added. "His efforts to promote the cause of peace in Darfur resulted in a peacekeeping commitment by the United Nations. He made the case for United Nations reform because he cares about the institution, and wants it to become more credible and effective." This latter point, his tough stance on providing reform to an organization mired by corruption, scandal, and poor leadership, is also mysteriosly absent from the vast majority of these stories. Yet, while his noteworthy and commendable accomplishments are not discussed, his personality seems to be unavoidable. It seems as though his hot-headed personality trumps his actions. To demonstrate this, many of the articles I've read discussed an incident between Bolton and U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Mark Malloch Brown. That his personality should overshadow his actions is unfortunate, though that appeared to be the sticking point amongst Senate Democrats who vowed not to reaffirm Bolton. The most common criticism of Bolton is based not on his actions, which speak for themselves, but rather his brash personality. However brief his time was, I feel as though his actions demonstrated the potential to provide real change within the UN, and to promote peace and security throughout the world. Like the ambassadors from Japan, China and others, I appreciate his hard work, and am sad to see him go. Cross-Posted at cheap cialis Generic Viagra viagra Cheap Viagra

Lessig in Brazil with Windows?

Posted on May 06, 2008 in Generic pharmaceuticals

from ALAN CLENDENNING of the AP, as published by the San Jose Mercury News (Jan. 29): PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil - Activists at a leftist gathering where Microsoft is viewed as a corporate bogeyman urged developing nations Saturday to leap into the information age with free open-source software. In a packed warehouse where tens of thousands are attending the World Social Forum, Grateful Dead lyricist John Barlow said poor nations can't solve their problems unless they stop paying expensive software licensing fees. Open source software includes programs that are not controlled by a single company. The software can be developed by anyone, with few restrictions. The best known such software is the Linux operating system, which can be downloaded free from the Internet. "Already, Brazil spends more in licensing fees on proprietary software than it spends on hunger," said Barlow, co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a cyberspace civil liberties group. Barlow said Brazil is trying to wean itself from Microsoft with a campaign to persuade Brazilians to shift from costly Windows products to applications that run on the Linux operating system. Microsoft contends open-source software can be more expensive than Windows programs when service costs are factored in. How much people spend on Microsoft products is unclear because the company often provides discounts when it senses it may lose business. However, competition from open-source software has prompted Microsoft to offer those discounts. Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's administration says the open-source policy makes sense for a developing country where a mere 10 percent of the 182 million people have computers at home, and where the debt-laden government is the nation's biggest computer buyer. China, France, Germany, Japan and South Korea also are pursuing open-source alternatives. In a partial response to the open-source threat and to piracy, Microsoft last year launched stripped-down, cheap versions of Windows in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Similar products are on the way for India and Russia. Joining Barlow on Saturday were Brazilian pop superstar Gilberto Gil, who is Brazil's minister of culture, and Lawrence Lessig, Stanford University law professor and chairman of Creative Commons, a nonprofit organization devoted to sharing creative material online. All the social forum's 800 computers are running on open-source software, but the loosely organized event ran into an embarrassing glitch Saturday's when two big screens betrayed the fact that the computer was running on Windows, with the operating system's toolbar visible at the bottom of the screens. Lessig noticed and the computer was quickly disconnected and replaced with a laptop running on open-source software. The story was also picked up by Fox News: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,145827,00.html generic cialis Generic Viagra cheap viagra viagra
